Wort 2009 Planning Meeting

- Style and in house competitions are scheduled through April. The meeting is for planning April 2009-March 2010. Meeting presentations also TBD.
Boston Homebrew Competition
- Saturday, Feb. 28th @ 10 Saint James Ave # 1200, Boston
- Set up is 6:00 PM on Feb. 27th
In House Style Competition: IPA
- Ron Senykoff volunteered to host. Date will be some time after the next meeting, probably a Saturday morning. Also looking into registering it with the BJCP. Members interested in judging were encouraged to participate.
Sam Adams Patriot Homebrew Competition
- Saturday, Jan 24th @ Gilette Stadium. Several Worts will be attending.
Treasurer's report Wade Hicks was unable to attend, postponed until the next meeting.

February Style to be Appreciated is Specialty Beers, BJCP Category 23 Kris asked for volunteers. Nobody stepped forward at this time.
25th Anniversary Update Alastair Hewitt has a verbal agreement for a location in Salem, MA on Saturday April 18th. The location is accessible via commuter rail from Boston. It was explained that it is difficult to find a location that does not have a liquor license, as this would conflict with serving homebrew.
Slither Explained by Matt Dunn to be a black-tie and gown event in which members tour multiple up-scale bars and drink Scotch / Martinis, etc. No organizer at this point.
Discussion of interest in beer trip to U.K. David Bond discussed. There was mention of contacting CAMRA folks involved with NERAX.
National Homebrewers Conference Kevin Farrell mentioned that while the hotel block is sold out, going to Marriott.com one can still get rooms.

Style to be Appreciated: Brown Ales BJCP 10C and 11
Alastair Hewitt gave a presentation on Brown Ales, concentrating on the differences between Northern and Southern Browns. He also discussed his experience with dark crystal malts instead of any roasted malts. Alastair was congratulated for his Best-of-show Hop Crisis Mild recipe making it into the January / February issue of BYO Magazine
